Shri Vishram Ghat

Shri Vishram Ghat, located in Mathura along the sacred banks of the Yamuna River, is one of the most important and holiest sites in Braj. The word “Vishram” means rest, and according to ancient tradition, this is the place where Lord Krishna rested after killing the tyrant King Kansa, liberating the people of Mathura from his cruelty. From that moment, the ghat became a symbol of victory of righteousness and the beginning of peace.

The ghat is beautifully constructed with steps leading down to the Yamuna, where devotees perform aarti, puja, holy dips, and parikrama. Shri Vishram Ghat is also the starting and ending point of the famous Mathura Vrindavan 84-kos Parikrama, making it a spiritually significant place for pilgrims. Evening Yamuna Aarti at Vishram Ghat is a divine experience—lamps float on the river, devotional chants fill the air, and the atmosphere becomes heavenly with spiritual vibrations.

Surrounded by many ancient temples, including Mukharvind Temple, Mukti Tirtha, and Yamuna Maharani Temple, the area radiates devotion and peace. Sitting by the ghat, watching the calm flow of Yamuna, fills the heart with serenity and devotion to Krishna.
