Puchri ka Lota

Puchri Ka Lota

Puchri Ka Lota is a unique and spiritually significant spot located near Govardhan and is an important stop along the Govardhan Parikrama route. The place carries a sweet and heartfelt story connected to a squirrel’s devotion to Lord Rama during the construction of the bridge to Lanka (Ram Setu).

According to belief, when Lord Rama and His army of Vanaras were building the stone bridge, a small squirrel helped by rolling in the sand and shaking the grains onto the stones, showing her love and service in her own little way. Lord Rama affectionately stroked her back, leaving three divine lines, which are said to be seen even today on Indian squirrels. It is believed that this is the place where the squirrel kept her tiny pot (lota) of sand, offering it in service to Lord Rama — hence the name “Puchri ka Lota”.

Devotees who visit this spot are reminded that no service to God is small—what matters is devotion. The place inspires humility, love, and the importance of sincere service to the Lord.
