SHREE NAND BABA TEMPLE

SHREE NAND BABA TEMPLE, NANDGAON

Shree Nand Baba Temple, situated atop the Nandisvara Hill in Nandgaon, is one of the holiest sites in Braj Dham. It is believed to be the residence of Nand Baba, Yashoda Maiya, and Lord Krishna during His childhood years after the family moved from Gokul to Nandgaon to escape Kamsa’s tyranny.

The temple stands as a magnificent symbol of love, protection, and divine parenthood, where Nand Baba and Yashoda are worshipped with deep reverence. The atmosphere vibrates with the same affection that once filled their home when Krishna and Balarama roamed these sacred streets.

Legend / Story

According to the Braj Mahatmya and local lore, after Kamsa’s demons repeatedly attacked Gokul, Nand Baba decided to relocate with his family and all the cowherds to Nandgaon. Lord Krishna spent most of His childhood here, performing countless lilas — stealing butter, herding cows with His friends, and enchanting the hearts of the Gopis with His divine flute.

The hill of Nandisvara itself is said to be the form of Lord Shiva, who took the shape of a mountain so that he could always serve and behold Krishna’s pastimes.
