Uthkal place
Utkhal Place (Utkhal Sthan)
Utkhal Place, located in Gokul, is a sacred spot associated with the famous childhood pastime of Lord Krishna known as the Dāmodar Leela. Here, little Krishna would secretly steal butter from the pots of Mother Yashoda and the Gopis. “Utkhal/Ukhla” refers to the wooden mortar used for churning butter.
This site is believed to be the very place where Mother Yashoda tied baby Krishna to the wooden grinding mortar as a loving punishment for His butter-stealing mischief. However, Krishna dragged the mortar between two Arjuna trees, causing them to fall, and liberated the two divine souls Nalakuvara and Manigriva who were cursed to live as trees.
Devotees visit this place to remember Krishna’s sweet and playful childhood pastimes filled with innocence, love, and divine joy. The atmosphere here is calm and devotional, reflecting the deep bond between Krishna and Mother Yashoda.
