Shringarvat

Shringarvat is one of the oldest, approximately 700 years old temple situated on the riverbank of Yamuna in Vrindavan. It is the place where Sri Nityananda Mahaprabhu resided and performed his bhajan while exploring Vrindavan. This place holds an important divine story — once, Shri Radha Rani ji requested Shri Krishna to do her makeup. As per her wish, Lord Krishna personally did the Shringar (decoration) of Shri Radha Rani ji under a banyan tree (Vat), which still stands here today. This temple is one of the oldest Gaudiya temples of Vrindavan.

At this divine place, Sri Krishna personally decorated Sri Radharani with flowers. “Shringar” means to decorate and “Vat” means Banyan tree. It is said that once Sri Radharani, taking up Maan Leela, left the Raas dance and hid herself under this Banyan tree (Shringar Vat). Later, Lord Krishna came searching for her, found her under the tree, and decorated her hair with forest flowers, applied kajal in her eyes, and adorned her with ornaments studded with gems.

Nityananda Prabhu, during his visit to Vrindavan, used to stay under this Banyan tree, chanting the names of Lord Krishna, deeply absorbed in divine love. Often, he would cry and shout with intense feelings of separation from Lord Krishna.

श्रृंगारवाट मंदिर यमुना नदी के किनारे स्थित वृंदावन का लगभग 700 वर्ष पुराना प्राचीन मंदिर है। यह वही स्थान है जहाँ श्री नित्यानंद प्रभु ने निवास किया और भजन करते हुए वृंदावन की लीला भूमि का दर्शन किया। इस स्थान से एक महत्वपूर्ण कथा जुड़ी है — एक बार श्री राधारानी जी ने श्रीकृष्ण से उनका श्रृंगार करने का अनुरोध किया। श्रीकृष्ण ने उनकी इच्छा पूरी करते हुए एक वटवृक्ष के नीचे स्वयं राधारानी जी का श्रृंगार किया। वह वटवृक्ष आज भी यहाँ विद्यमान है। यह मंदिर वृंदावन के सबसे प्राचीन गौड़ीय मंदिरों में से एक है।

इस पवित्र स्थान पर श्रीकृष्ण ने स्वयं श्रीराधा का पुष्पों से श्रृंगार किया। ‘श्रृंगार’ का अर्थ है सजाना और ‘वट’ का अर्थ है वटवृक्ष। कहा जाता है कि एक बार श्रीराधारानी मान लीला करते हुए रास से निवृत्त होकर इसी वटवृक्ष के नीचे छिप गई थीं। तब श्रीकृष्ण उन्हें खोजते हुए यहाँ आए और वटवृक्ष के नीचे बैठकर स्वयं उनके बालों में वनफूल सजाए, उनकी आँखों में काजल लगाया और रत्नों से जड़े आभूषणों से उनका श्रृंगार किया।

श्री नित्यानंद प्रभु जब वृंदावन आए, तो वे इसी वटवृक्ष के नीचे निवास करते थे और श्रीकृष्ण नाम का जप करते हुए भावविभोर हो जाते थे। कभी-कभी वे विरह वेदना में रोते और पुकारते थे।
