Airavat Footprint
Airavat Footprint
The Airavat Footprint, located near Govardhan, is a unique and revered spot associated with the divine pastimes of Lord Krishna and Airavat, the celestial white elephant of Lord Indra. According to the divine narration, after Lord Krishna lifted Govardhan Hill for seven days to protect the people of Braj from Indra’s storm, Lord Indra realized his mistake and came to seek forgiveness. Along with him came Airavat, his heavenly elephant, to offer respects and worship Lord Krishna.
It is believed that during this sacred moment, Airavat placed his foot on the ground, and the mark of his divine footprint remained here. This spot is therefore honored as the Airavat Footprint. Devotees visit this place to remember the lesson of humility — even the king of heaven and his mighty elephant bowed down before Krishna, acknowledging Him as the Supreme Lord.
Pilgrims often stop here during Govardhan Parikrama, offering prayers and seeking strength, purity, and devotion. The place inspires the understanding that no matter how powerful one is, true greatness lies in surrendering to God.
