SHRI RADHA GOVIND DEV JI TEMPLE

Shri Radha Govind Dev Ji Temple is one of the most sacred and historically significant temples of Vrindavan. Counted among the Seven Goswami Temples of Vrindavan, it holds immense spiritual importance for devotees of Lord Krishna. The temple was established by Srila Rupa Goswami, a foremost disciple of Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who discovered the ancient deity of Lord Govindaji buried under the ground at Gomatila. This discovery was guided by Krishna Himself, who appeared in the form of a charming Vrajvasi boy and revealed the hidden location of the deity.

Spiritual & Historical Significance

The deity of Shri Govind Dev Ji was originally installed 5,000 years ago by Vajranabha, the great-grandson of Lord Krishna. However, during the course of history, the deity became hidden underground. Following the divine instruction of Lord Chaitanya, Srila Rupa Goswami performed intense bhajan and parikrama, yearning to rediscover the lost deity. His prayers were answered when Lord Krishna, disguised as a Vrajvasi child, personally revealed the whereabouts of Govind Dev Ji.

With the help of local Brajvasis, Srila Rupa Goswami unearthed the beautiful deity of Govind Dev Ji, whose divine form was described as being more enchanting than millions of Cupids. Soon after, the deity of Shri Radha Rani, who was worshipped earlier in Jagannath Puri and sent to Vrindavan by Jahnava Thakurani, was placed beside Lord Govinda. From then onwards, the temple became famous as Shri Radha-Govind Dev Ji Mandir.

The original grand temple was constructed under the guidance of the Goswamis and was considered one of the most magnificent structures in North India. However, during the Mughal era, the original deity was moved to Jaipur, where it continues to be worshipped with great reverence. Today, the temple in Vrindavan remains a powerful site of devotion and history, attracting thousands of pilgrims from across the world.
