SHRI KATYAYANI MANDIR
The Katyayani Temple of Vrindavan holds immense spiritual and scriptural significance as it is dedicated to Goddess Katyayani, an incarnation of Goddess Durga and the presiding deity of Brij Mandal. The temple is rooted deeply in Vedic and Puranic traditions, symbolizing the protective and nurturing aspect of the Divine Mother.
Scriptural Significance
-
The Arya Shashtra Adya Stotra mentions: “Brijay Katyayani para” – meaning that in Brij, Goddess Katyayani is the supreme deity for worship.
-
In the Shrimad Bhagwat Purana, Lord Vishnu commanded Yogmaya Shakti to incarnate as the daughter of Nanda Baba and Yashoda Mata in Brij, just before He Himself appeared as Sri Krishna. This highlights Goddess Katyayani’s divine role in Krishna’s leela and in the protection of dharma.
-
According to tradition, the gopis of Vrindavan worshipped Maa Katyayani, praying for Krishna to become their beloved husband, thus making the temple a center of divine love and surrender.

Katyayani Devi is worshipped as the protector of Vrindavan and Brijbhumi.
