SHRI SHAH JI TEMPLE

The Shahji Temple, also popularly known as the “Tede Khambe Wala Mandir” due to its exquisite spiral pillars, is one of the most artistic and spiritually significant temples in Vrindavan. Located near the sacred Nidhivan, the temple is formally named Lalit Nikunj and enshrines the divine deities of Sri Radha and Sri Krishna, lovingly called “Chhote Radha Raman” due to their small and charming forms.

Architectural & Spiritual Grandeur

  • The temple is adorned with magnificent marble carvings, unique spiral-shaped pillars, and fine craftsmanship that reflects both devotion and artistry.

  • On the eastern end of the temple courtyard lies the famous Basanti Kamra (Durbar Hall), which is decorated with elegant Belgian glass chandeliers, intricate paintings, and fountains in its central area. This sacred hall opens only twice a year on Basant Panchami, making it a rare and divine darshan for devotees.

  • The presiding deities here are known as Lalit Kishori Ji and Lalit Mohini Sevya Thakur, worshipped with deep devotion and elaborate rituals.

Historical Anecdote

  • After shifting to Vrindavan, Shri Lalit Kishori Ji took a solemn vow never to leave the holy land of Vrindavan. His brother Lalit Mohini Ji also embraced this vow.

  • Such was Lalit Kishori’s reverence for Vrindavan’s sacred dust that he avoided even basic physical needs upon it. Instead, he used clay pots from Agra for disposal, ensuring the sanctity of Braj remained untouched. This illustrates the unparalleled love and surrender towards Vrindavan dham.
